Pasco County Animal Services Is Helping Protect Your Pets

~PCAS is offering discounted rabies vaccines and microchips for one day only~ LAND O’ LAKES, FL Pasco County Animal Services Division (PCAS) will be offering $5.00 rabies vaccines and $15.00 microchips for pets on Saturday, February 13, 2016. PCAS staff is excited to provide an inexpensive option to help keep cats and dogs up to date with their rabies vaccines and to help bring wandering pets back home. Dr. William Smith, the shelter’s dedicated veterinarian, will be administering both the vaccine and the microchip to the first 300 pets. The event will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. (or until the vaccines and microchips are gone) at Pasco County Animal Services, 19640 Dogpatch Lane, Land O’ Lakes, Florida 34638. PCAS’ goal is to encourage more pet owners to vaccinate their cats and dogs against rabies, a potentially deadly disease. Rabies is a preventable viral disease, generally transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. A vast majority of cases do occur in wild animals, but rabies can be passed on to unvaccinated pets and people. Pet owners who take advantage of the low cost rabies vaccines will be required to purchase a County dog license at the price of $10.00 for an altered pet and $35.00 for an unaltered pet. The licenses are required and can only be issued if the pet is up to date on their rabies vaccination. PCAS is also offering low cost microchipping during the event for only $15.00 per pet. Licensing and microchipping is a good way for responsible pet owners to increase the likelihood that their beloved cat or dog will be returned home should they become lost and end up at the shelter.
